Sleater-Kinney @ The Anthem [DC] - 10/25/2019

Sleater-Kinney hit The Anthem last weekend touring behind their new, controversial St. Vincent-produced album, The Center Won’t Hold. Longtime drummer Janet Weiss left the band before the album’s release (her seat filled on tour by Angie Boylan) and that’s the bad news. The good news is that Sleater-Kinney is still as bold and vital as ever.

Yes, their sound has been augmented by a few new touring musicians, but the dual guitar attack behind would-be classics like “Dig Me Out” and “All Hands on the Bad One” hasn’t changed. And Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker are very visibly having fun up there.

The gargantuan 29-song setlist featured the entirety of The Center Won’t Hold but also a great selection of older material, including 5 songs from The Woods and four from No Cities to Love. Their US tour continues in the Midwest and West Coast through late November so be sure to see them when they come your way.
