MorMor @ Songbyrd - 4/16/2019
Last June, Toronto musician MorMor (aka Seth Nyquist) released his debut EP, the self-written, self-produced Heaven’s Only Wishful, to loads of positive buzz and track play counts in the millions. His brand of indie psych-pop has found an audience, not in the least at a packed Songbyrd in DC. His set was compact, including nearly if not all of the songs he has released at this point, including the dreamily laid-back “Whatever Comes to Mind” a new song called “Days Like This.” He and his band gave respite from the craziness of the outside world, and for 45 minutes, everyone at Songbyrd was floating sky high alongside Nyquist’s falsettos.
MorMor’s latest single “Outside” is out now through his label Don't Guess, with a debut album on the way.
Brooklyn-based musician duendita opened for MorMor with a soul-nourishing solo performance, accompanied on stage with just an arpeggiator and a sound clip launcher. Her songs of self-love and outward love struck a chord with the crowd, as did her deep vocal range, reminiscent of the unforgettable Nina Simone. Her latest album direct line to My Creator is out now through The Vanguarde Craft and Creative.
