Foals @ 9:30 Club - 4/16/2019
After two years of radio silence, Foals released their fifth LP, Part I: Everything Not Saved WIll Be Lost. With two shows at DC’s 9:30 Club, the Oxford band showcased audacity, energy and a passion for their eclectic and renewed sound. Yannis Philippakis is an astounding lead vocalist and guitarist who knows how to enjoy his time on stage, injecting electricity into the audience with his passion and rock star antics. Near the end of the show, he jumped from one of the second-floor balconies, trusting his life to his fans. Twice. Guitarist Jimmy Smith casually popped open a bottle of beer through it all and took in the spectacle.
Rock. And. Roll.
With a setlist that included the fan favorites “My Number”, “Spanish Sahara,” “Two Steps, Twice,” future classics “On the Luna,” “Sunday,” “In Degrees,” and more, it was a set that proved rock and roll is most definitely not dead, or even limping towards old age.
The Canadian post-punk band Preoccupations and Atlanta band OMNI opened for Foals both nights.
Foals will be touring during throughout the summer, and Part II: Everything Not Saved WIll Be Lost is expected to be released during the second half of the year.
