K. Flay @ 9:30 Club [DC] - 9/29/2019
K. Flay took the stage at The 9:30 club crouched in the dark on top of layered rectangular platforms that illuminated as she launched into her hit "Not in California." Her setlist, which featured every song off of this year's Solutions, plus her biggest hits from 2017's Every Where Is Somewhere and 2014's Life as a Dog, mixed elements of rock, pop, and hip hop, highlighted the multifaceted nature of her career. Between her fast rapping in "Champagne," the grunge vibes of "Black Wave," and the upbeat poppy chorus in "Good News," it is safe to say that K. Flay cannot be constrained to a single genre.
Before ending her set with "High Enough" she explained that she had to reject her tour manager's multiple offers to buy her alcohol saying, "I don't think you understand because tonight, the people at The 9:30 Club are gonna get me fucked up, and I must say I'm ALREADY high enough." She then returned to the stage for encores of "Sister" and "Blood in The Cut."
K. Flay is joined on tour by Electro-pop band, Houses, and Neon Gold's Your Smith. Your Smith's Latest EP, Wild Wild Woman, is out now from Neon Gold Records.
