Aldous Harding @ DC9- 4/9/2019
Aldous Harding calls to mind a theatrical sensibility and visual style of a young Kate Bush or Patti Smith, from the haunting “Horizon" to the quirky cut "The Barrel," the lead single off of her third album Designer. (On a related note: have you seen the hats?!) In anticipation of the new album, Harding's setlist at a sold-out DC9 was comprised almost entirely of songs from the as-of-yet unreleased Designer, the exceptions being a cover of Gerry Rafferty’s “Right Down the Line” and a “newer than new” song of hers not on Designer called “Old Pine.” Through it all, the DC9 crowd was utterly silent - people were hesitant to whisper even in-between songs. That’s the kind of power Harding wields - her emotive personality on stage captivated the crowd from start to finish.
Designer will be released on April 26 through 4AD.
