Sofi Tukker @ 9:30 Club [DC] - 5/22/2022
Sofi Tukker kicked off the opening night of their Wet Tennis Tour with the first of 2 sold-out nights at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. The vibe in the room made it clear that the crowd had been eagerly awaiting the two-time Grammy-nominated dance pop duo’s sophomore album.
Sofi and Tukker took the stage in matching sunset-colored tennis outfits as a robotic voice introduced them as opponents in a game of wet tennis. The show was set up like a game with challenges sprinkled throughout. They racked up points on a giant scoreboard that doubled as a drum pad. Challenges included fan dance offs and crowd volleyball. Sofi gave Tukker the first point since it was the first time he sang live on “Original Sin” instead of doing his signature deep talking voice.
They radiated exhilarating energy and were super interactive with the crowd throughout the entire show. Highlights included Sofi performing an acoustic rendition of “Brazilian Soul” from the coat check area on the balcony and Bob’s Dance Shop joining them on stage in matching tennis outfits to bring infectious energy on the most danceable tracks. Sofi Tukker’s Sophomore album, WET TENNIS, is out now via Ultra Records.
