Remi Wolf @ 9:30 Club [DC] - 2/15/2022
The Nation’s Capital was Remi Wolf’s second to last stop on her sold-out North American Tour. She treated D.C.’s 9:30 Club to a marvelous night of highly danceable supersaturated psych-pop. Formerly an American Idol contestant, she has made her mark on the pop scene with her eccentric style that blends influences of funk, R&B, and DIY bedroom pop.
On a stage set up like a trippy kindergarten classroom (featuring a furry painted couch with plants and psychedelic carpet) scenes from her vibrant music videos flashed across a screen as she started out the show with her explosive album opener, “Liquor Store.” The crowd was sprinkled with cow printed bucket hats and they screamed along to every word.
Remi and her band radiated Infectious playful energy throughout the entire set. She danced wildly across the stage in hot pink Ugg boots but most of the time she was leaning over the edge and belting directly into the crowd. The setlist included songs from Juno and earlier EPs, as well as covers of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” MGMT’s “Electric Feel,” and a brand new song called “Michael.”
At one point the singer exclaimed “I feel like a little baby today,” and started forward rolling across the stage. She jumped up and down on the couch during “Quiet On Set,” and even played drums while her drummer led the audience through a chant of positive affirmations that included “I know how to do my taxes,” and “The yogurt I ate was not expired.” She finished the night with an encore of fan favorites, “Street You Live On,” and “Disco Man.”
Remi is joined on tour by Queens-based synth-pop artist, Grace Ives. Grace’s latest album, 2nd, is out now on streaming services. She is also releasing a new song called “Loose” on February 23rd.
