Pretty Bitter @ Comet Ping Pong [DC] - 7/1/2022
It’s been a tough few years for bands navigating the throes of a pandemic, where the ability to play live shows was only secure until the next variant came around. Local DC synth-pop band, Pretty Bitter, used the time to put together their sophomore album ‘Hinges,’ and celebrated the record release at Comet Ping Pong last Friday.
Shirtless and shoeless band members played to a full crowd of fans, friends and family, bringing out all the feels in the process. Lead singer Emilia Bleker went from playing the emotional “She’s Pure Astral Light (Or so She Says)”, to crowd-surfing during “The Damn Thing is Cursed.” She then drew laughs when she apprehensively persuaded the crowd to play along with her retro phone prop (we all knew we were going to do it). Overall, the night was a triumphant celebration of putting out a new body of work thoroughly enjoyed by devoted, enthusiastic supporters.
Pretty Bitter was supported by local act Scorpio and Nashville-born Carmen Canedo. Listen to ‘Hinges,’ out now on Blossöm Records.
