Mystery Friends @ Comet Ping Pong [DC] - 2/8/2020
DC synth-pop band Mystery Friends are great on their own, but a Saturday night show is made better with even more friends. The quartet brought along Jay Niemeyer (singer/guitarist for Color Palette) and Zack Berman (keyboardist for Nah.) for a supercharged set. The show highlighted songs from their debut album Past and Future Self, from tracks that are yet to be recorded, and even a raucous cover of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.” Abby Sevcik’s voice soars on “See Right Through,” and drummer Greg Pauley was having a hell of a good time roaring through the frenetic “Public Figures.” And for a band that calls themselves ‘moderately danceable,’ their new songs sure clear the bar and then some.
Opening for Mystery Friends were the Philly-based group Church Girls and the DC-based group Bal Boheme. Scroll down for more pics from the show.
