Jungle @ 9:30 Club - 3/21/2019
“We finally fucking sold it out!” Tom McFarland yells halfway through Jungle’s groove-filled set in DC on Thursday night. And with good reason. Formed in 2013, Jungle has always put an aesthetic emphasis in their artwork, videos and live shows. While founded by Tom McFarland and Josh Lloyd-Watson, the group is a seven-piece collective who play so distinctly well with each other that it's hard to believe they only have two albums out. With a set full of retro lights, disco balls, and sunglasses, it was the music that really stood out. The London crew jammed cuts from last year’s For Ever album, songs “Heavy California” and “Beat 54 (All Good Now)” were just a few crowd favorites. Not to mention, Rudi Salmon giving a soul-stirring solo at the end of “Casio”. Despite a chilly and drizzly night in DC, Jungle transformed 9:30 Club into a heated and hazy 70’s club. The show was perfect for a date night, dancing with friends or just dancing by your damn self. As founders of the collective, Tom and Josh have said in the past, “Jungle stemmed from a desire for honesty… true connection and friendship. It’s about being in a collective and collective energy.” The group is currently on their North American tour with tickets going fast.
