CAAMP @ 9:30 Club [DC] - 1/31/2020
Your Favorite Coffeehouse. Totally Stress Free. Morning Commute. These are some of the many playlists where you will find indie-folk trio CAAMP’s music innocuously making its way into your head. The Athens, Ohio group started out as the duo of childhood friends Taylor Meier and Evan Westfall, but along with bassist Matt Vinson in the band, they’ve found a massive following since their 2016 self-titled debut album. Big enough, in fact, to sell out two nights at DC’s 9:30 Club.
Songs like “No Sleep” from their 2019 album By & By are acoustic earworms that are, yes, predestined for your indie folk playlist of choice. By that same token, they’re memorable and relatable enough that you should’ve expected that the crowd (with many taking part in date night) emphatically screamed: “I wanna love her all day / for the rest of my life” along with Meier. The group has struck a chord with many, and their music and easygoing attitudes make it hard to dispute the success they’ve earned thus far.
By & By is out now on CAAMP’s own By and By Records.
Opening for Caamp was Columbus-based guitarist Angela Perley. Her debut album is the self-released 4:30.
